North Schools’ Modern Languages Debating Competition

Category: Achievement, Competitions, French, News, Spanish

On Thursday evening, six of our Y13 Spanish and French linguists went to the North Schools’ Modern Languages Debating Competition at Cheadle Hulme School. Both teams performed brilliantly, debating topics such as “Simple is better than complex”, “Digital technology is making people’s lives better” and “Religion has a key role in modern society” in French and Spanish. I’m thrilled to let you know that our Spanish team won both of their debates against Manchester High School for Girls and Alderley Edge School for Girls, narrowly missing the final. Our French team stormed through to the final beating Cheadle Hulme School and Cheadle Hulme High School and were crowned champions of the regional competition!

Please do pass on congratulations to all of the students involved – Avan, Ije and Esomchi (Spanish) and Honor, Ava and Imogen (French). They were all a force to be reckoned with!

A huge thank you also goes to our fabulous Spanish language assistant, Esperanza Arenas, for all her help with the competition and her ability to stay calm throughout.
