Mother Toungue Other Toungue Poetry Success

Category: Competitions, MFL, News, Outside of the Classroom, School

We are delighted and would like to share a fantastic poetic success in the recent Mother Tongue Other Tongue Competition.

Students from all year groups have taken part in the Mother Tongue Other Tongue competition, a national multilingual poetry competition that aims to celebrate cultural diversity and the many languages currently spoken in schools across the UK.

The Other Tongue competition asks pupils to create an original poem in a second language they are learning at school (French, German, Spanish, Italian, Arabic, Urdu and Mandarin). The Mother Tongue competition asks pupils to submit a creative poem or song from their mother tongue in any language other than English with a short explanation of the inspiration behind the piece, where it comes from and why it is important to them. The competition is open to all primary schools and secondary schools and a great number of schools took part this year.

We received and entered some great poems and are delighted to say that Yiyang Z (Year 13) has won in the Y12-13 category in both the Mother Tongue and Other Tongue competitions with her poetic submissions. Please see her brilliant entries below:
