Remote Desktop allows you to “remote control” the school’s computers from home across the internet. It opens up a window on your computer which acts as a virtual “screen” for our machines. Your keyboard and mouse, or touch-screen, can then operate the school’s computer, you can open your network files, edit them and save them just as if you were sitting at a PC in school.
Don’t forget to precede your username with “AGGS\” (e.g. if your username were a.user, you’d need to enter AGGS\AUser). Note that’s a “\” (left of the Z key on most UK keyboards), not a normal slash.
Please note that Remote Desktop is only available to AGGS staff and students who have accounts on the school network – we cannot provide access to parents or other members of the school community.
The easiest way to access Remote Desktop from a Windows computer is to click on this link and it will take you to the file on SharePoint, where you should download the file. Save it somewhere convenient (such as your desktop), then double-click on the file. This will open the RDP client on your machine with all the settings you need already configured.
To access Remote Desktop from a Mac, or from an iOS or Andrioid tablet, you’ll need to install the free Microsoft Remote Desktop client from the App Store or Google Play.
Once installed, follow the instructions on this sheet to configure your Remote Desktop App and you should be able to access our network and applications from your device easily. Be warned, though, that accessing via a 3G or 4G mobile network may become costly over long periods of time — best to use it only when you have a wifi connection.
