Year 6 Transition

This part of the website contains information we hope you will find useful during your child’s transition from their primary school to AGGS.

Primary School Visits

In the last few weeks of the summer term in Year 6, a teacher from AGGS will visit students joining us in September at their primary school. This is a chance for students to learn a bit more about transitioning to secondary school and ask any questions.

AGGS Virtual Tour

It is likely that you attended our Open Day with your child prior to them sitting the entrance exam. We have created a short virtual tour video which you may wish to share with your child prior to Transition Day. Click on the image of Main School below to view the video.

Transition Day

We invite all new students to a Transition Day towards the end of term in July. Students will get the chance to meet their Form Tutor, Senior Tutor and new peers. Your child can also use this opportunity to familiarise themselves with the school grounds and new routines.

Induction Evening

We held an Induction Evening on 25 June 2025 for parents and carers of new Year 7 students. If you were unable to attend, the PowerPoint for the event and other resources are included below.

Induction Evening for parents and carers of Year 7 students joining AGGS in September 2025 will be on 25 June 2025.

Music (Instrument) Lessons

Our Head of Music, Ms Mayall, has prepared a PowerPoint which was shared in our 2024 Music Induction Evening. It outlines the full range of musical activities going on at school, including instrument lessons which you can arrange for your child.

Music Induction Evening for parents and carers of Year 7 students joining AGGS in September 2025 will take place on 4 June 2025.

LAMDA Speech and Drama Lessons

Students in Year 7 are offered the opportunity to further their speaking, listening and performance skills through LAMDA Speech and Drama lessons.

Students will work with a variety of texts, which will support their literacy work at school. Lessons will follow the LAMDA Syllabus and students will be offered the opportunity to enter for the world-renowned LAMDA examinations in communication; Speaking of Verse and Prose Exams use poetry and prose to develop effective oral communication skills that will prove invaluable throughout life. Performing texts from memory helps to develop strong presentation skills, a clear speaking voice, self-discipline and focus.

These lessons will be extracurricular and will take place before school or during the lunch break and for this academic year. There are also a limited number of private, one to one lessons available during curriculum time where students will be able to focus on other grades and syllabus pathways that are not offered in the group sessions. A fully qualified English and Drama teacher with LAMDA teaching experience and actor training will teach the lessons. There will also be the opportunity for your child to be entered for the relevant LAMDA examination, for which there will be an additional charge for examination entry. If your child is eligible for pupil premium funding, then they can use some of this funding to pay for LAMDA lessons. Group lessons will take place on a Thursday for Year 7 and will be following the Verse and Prose Grade 3 syllabus.

If you would like any further information about LAMDA you can email school admin@aggs.bright-futures.co.uk and mark your email FAO Mrs Ryan, Head of Drama.

Year 7 Residential

Each year we take our Year 7 pupils on a residential to the Lake District in Cumbria.

We find that this is a fantastic opportunity for the students to get to know one another in their forms and make new friends in a relaxed and exciting setting.

Activities are predominantly outdoors, encourage the development of communication skills, teamwork and problem solving and are fully structured and supervised.

Additional information regarding this trip can be found on the school website under ‘Year 7 Information’.

We hope that you find the information on this page useful.

In the meantime, if you have any queries or concerns please feel free to contact me via the school admin email address: admin@aggs.bright-futures.co.uk
