To kick off AGGS Biology Week 2019, the sixth form Science Society set up a range of biology related demonstrations for the younger years.
A murder mystery puzzle, where the students had to use food tests to identify the biological molecule present, allowed everyone to put their detective caps on, and solve how the foods were ‘poisoned’.
Looking at baby mosquitoes under a microscope also proved popular, as the students were shown the life cycle of a mosquito. A fun game of ‘catch the mosquito larvae’ got everyone involved, and every participant had the opportunity to name and ‘adopt’ a baby mosquito.
An interactive demonstration on how to extract DNA from a banana fascinated students, and after a few attempts, were successful!
Overall a great experience for the younger years, many of whom are keen to return next year!
