RNCM Free Workshop – Sunday 15th March 2020

Category: External, Music, News

The Royal Northern College of Music would like to invite you to take part in a workshop for music students aged 10 – 16 as part of their Chamber Music Festival on Sunday 15th March 2020

The festival this year is ‘Music of the New World’ and focuses on American Music. To tie in with this theme, the workshop we are offering is based on a Scott Joplin Rag and will be run by the ‘Chameleon Quartet’ (see below for their bio)

During this free workshop, students will learn about the structure and background of a Rag and then be given the opportunity to create their own music before coming together to perform what they have produced in an informal concert.

Students can be any ability, play any instrument, and come as a small group or individually. We have limited spaces for this workshop and they will be allocated on a first come basis.
Deadline for applying is Friday 21st February

The outline for this workshop is:
10:30 – Introduction from ‘Chameleon Quartet’
11:00 – Workshop
12:00 – Break
12:15 – Prepare for Concert
13:00 – Concert in the Carole Nash Recital Room: Family & Friends welcome

Chameleon Quartet:
Chameleon is a multi- instrumental, award- winning, woodwind quartet that was formed at the Royal Northern College of Music in 2016. All members double on at least one other instrument, meaning the group has a unique sound and set-up and the musicians often change instruments mid piece. They are passionate about creating innovative music and are proud to arrange all their repertoire themselves. They are Live Music Now artists and June Emerson Launchpad prize winners. They have won several competitions including the Trevor Wye woodwind competition (2017) and Brodsky Prize (2018) and were awarded the audience prize and highly commended for the Chris Rowland Chamber Music Prize (2017).
