Letter to parents – Coronavirus Update

Category: COVID-19, News, School

Dear Parent / Carer

You will no doubt be aware of the Prime Minister’s announcement yesterday that schools will close at the end of the day on Friday, for the foreseeable future. He also announced that there will be no public exams in May/June.

In terms of school closure, AGGS will be open as usual today and tomorrow. From next week, teachers will set work via Teams or Sharepoint and students should log onto these platforms to access the work. In the meantime, please do not email the school or individual teachers to ask for work. The next two days will be busy, with ongoing teaching commitments in the classroom and preparing for closure. Work will be provided in due course.

For students in Years 11 and 13, I know this will be a worrying time. We have not yet had any further information, beyond the Prime Minister’s statement that students would get the qualifications they need and deserve for their academic career. We will send out further information on this as soon as it becomes available.

We will be seeking information later today about which parents are classed as ‘key workers’ once the list is published by the government. We will then need to plan what provision is required in school for children of these workers and how we will manage this. We will keep you informed over the next few days as to how this might work.

Thank you for bearing with us at a difficult and unprecedented time. Please reassure your children that we will do our best for them over the coming weeks and months.

Yours sincerely

Stephanie Gill

Principal
