The talk on parasites introduced us to some examples of parasites, such as Ophiocordyceps unilateralis, a fungus that can ‘zombify’ ants, and plasmodiums, which can cause malaria. We also learned about what parasites do and why they do it, as well as mutualism- an interaction that can benefit both species. It was certainly exciting to see all the strange things that can occur in nature.
