The Great Biology Bake Off

To launch Biology Week, we opened up with The Great Biology Bake Off! The event was for students to make a cake that represents something biological e.g. an organ, organism or cell, which is so amazing that it must be fictional!

Tuesday 5th October:

Parasites: Control of Body and Mind Talk

Here, we looked at examples of creepy endoparasites, including body invaders and zombie ants! Great way to kick off Biology Week and Spooktober!

Talk on De-Extinction!

We discussed how we could bring back animals from the dead… and if we should.

Thursday 7th October

Limb and Neuronal Regeneration

During lunch, we discussed limb and neuronal regeneration. We were very lucky to have Dr. Elli Marinopoulou present her work on developmental neuroscience! She presented a fantastic talk on her work in waking up brain cells, and how we can maybe regenerate the nervous system following degeneration.

Thursday 7th – Friday 8th October

Rat dissections! 

Year 12 and 13 took part in a rat dissection, to examine the mammalian organs and how their structure perfectly matches their function.
