It’s not often that readers get a chance to showcase their knowledge of books in a competitive arena. I was delighted, therefore, to be able to give some of our most avid readers the chance to become part of a team and represent the school in a national competition. And so with great anticipation, Alice V. & Diya A. (9-5), Ella Y. & Mariia D. (9-2), with a reserve team of Leddra N. S. (7-1), Anika K. (8-6) and Sameeha I. (8-3), signed into MS Teams on Wednesday 23rd March to participate in the Greater Manchester and South Lancashire regional heat of the National Reading Champions Quiz. With a place in the national finals in May at stake and having never competed before, we had no idea what to expect. It was a really tough quiz, testing students on their knowledge of books and authors with rounds on dystopian fiction, author pictures, pets and heroes and heroines. Our team did brilliantly, coming a well-deserved 3rd out of 26 and winning book tokens for their efforts. No trip to the national finals this year, but we are incredibly proud of their achievement.
If you are a prolific reader and are currently in Year 7 or 8, do come and register your interest for next year’s teams.
