Charity Week 2022

Category: Charity, News, School

Assalamu-Alaykum! (may peace be upon you)

This year Islamic Society went above and beyond for Charity Week, raising a massive £9526.56!

We hosted a range of exciting events for everyone in school to get involved in, from Year 7’s to members of staff! We are so grateful to announce that we have raised such a huge sum, which would not have been possible without all your help.

Here’s a quick run through of what we got up to…

We hosted in-school charity events during the 10th-14th October. Before getting started, we gave assemblies to each year group to inform them of who Islamic Relief are and where their donations will be going. The week started off with a bang, with something the sixth formers and members of staff know and love – henna!

Following on from this amazing start, we had our popular International Food Sale. The main hall was filled with foods from all around, including samosas, gol gappe and Domino’s! We introduced meal deals this year, selling drinks and snacks on the side which seemed to catch a lot of attention – we had sold out in no time.

The week came to a blissful end with a Bake sale and a Wear What You Want day. There were plenty of baked goods donated from students all throughout the school which were amazing to see (and taste!).

We also held Mock Interviews for medical, dental, and veterinary students – thanks to our amazing university volunteers who asked the interview questions and gave valuable feedback.

This may have been the end to Charity Week in school, but it was not the end to our events. On Sunday 6th November, AGGS ISOC hosted our FIRST EVER charity dinner, held at the British Muslim Heritage Centre. The night was one to remember with over 150 guests, and included Qur’an recitations, spiritual reminders, auctions, a huge chocolate fountain and a 3-course meal to top it all off.

This year’s Charity Week was an immensely rewarding experience; we all came together as a community to raise an amazing total of £9526.56. This will be going to help orphans and fund emergency projects all around the world. This has been a huge success, finishing off with our ISOC receiving a ‘Stars of The Future’ award – a proud achievement for us all.

A massive thank you to everyone who contributed!
