At our school, we have been a part of the Modeshift STARS initiative for many years and our School Council are still fully committed to promoting active, healthy, and sustainable travel for all members of our community.
We continue to run a tireless campaign encouraging students to engage in active travel wherever possible, whether that means walking, cycling (if proficient), or using public transport. These choices not only support physical health and wellbeing but also help reduce congestion and improve air quality around our school.
A key focus of our work is addressing the ongoing issue of unsafe and illegal parking on and around the school site. Despite regular reminders, congestion caused by inappropriate parking continues to create significant safety concerns for our students, particularly at the start and end of the school day.
We strongly encourage all parents and carers to make use of our designated Park and Stride locations. These provide a safe and convenient alternative, allowing families to park a short distance away from the school and complete the journey on foot. This small change makes a big difference in reducing traffic, easing congestion, and improving safety for everyone. Park and Stride maps have been handed to drivers at regular points throughout the academic year by School Council and shared with all members of the school community. Maps are also available from any School Council member or Mrs Charlton.
Our Year 10 School Council has taken an active role in this campaign by creating a powerful video highlighting the importance of pavement safety. It clearly demonstrates the risks posed by poor parking and the impact it has on students trying to travel safely to and from school.
We ask all parents and carers to take a few moments to watch this video and reflect on how their travel choices affect the wider school community. Pavement safety is a serious concern, and we need everyone’s support to address it.
By working together, we can create a safer, healthier environment for our children. We ask you to get on board with our campaign and actively encourage your child to walk, cycle (where proficient to do so), or use public transport.
Thank you for your continued support.
