MUN Conference at MGS

Category: Citizenship, Media Team, News, Students write

On Saturday 11th November, AGGS was delighted to send two delegations of students to an MUN conference at Manchester Grammar School. We represented both China and Sweden, with all delegates enjoying a successful day with fruitful debate in all committees.

As ever, we were welcomed and supported by MGS, particularly the new delegates for whom this was their first conference. Everyone debated to a very high level and the research which all delegates undertook before the conference definitely paid off!

We were really glad that this conference was able to go ahead, particularly with a conference scheduled at Chester cancelled just two weeks prior, due to a rise in covid cases. Luckily the organising team at MGS ensured that the entire day was socially distanced, and debate could go ahead!

Some highlights of the day included incredible acronyms in human rights committee, sing-offs in health committee and a poorly received request for the chairs of human rights council to sing Doja Cat karaoke.

Though not the most important part of MUN, awards are certainly very lovely to receive as a recognition of the hard work and preparation which all the delegates participated in prior to, and during the conference. Many of our delegates won awards at this conference including best young delegates in health and human rights, commended in human rights council, highly commended in security council and SPECCOM, and a huge congratulations to Sophia for outstanding in EcoFIn!

And a huge well done to the delegation of China which won highly commended overall – second only to Alty boys!
