Sabina M (Speaker of the AGGS team & winner of Best Regional Speaker award)

Following great success from two previous rounds, on Tuesday 22nd March, the AGGS team competed in the regional final of the ESU public speaking competition. Our incredible team consisted of Sabina M (Y11 – Speaker), Jahnavi P (Y11 – Questioner) and Anna J (Y10 – Chair). They went head-to-head with Windermere school, Bridgewater School, Balshaws Church of England High School, Urmston Grammar & Altrincham Grammar School for Boys in a tough but equally thrilling battle for a place in one of the pneumatical rounds to the national final.

All three of our students adapted quickly to working with people from other schools and performed fantastically in their roles. Sabina won a Best Speaker Award for her speech on ‘Is human cloning inevitable’ captivating her audience with her charming, engaging tone and clear analysis, effortlessly answering spontaneous questions from the audience. Jahnavi excelled in her role, listening intently to her speaker from Windermere school and subsequently asking incredibly thoughtful and insightful questions regarding their speech. Anna confidently introduced them, wonderfully connecting with the audience whilst also keeping careful control of timing, a challenging task that did not phase her from flourishing in her role. Our team narrowly missed out on the next round, yet did an amazing job, working together brilliantly and using their advanced quick-thinking skills to push themselves to new heights!
