“A girl, head held high, golden hair, smiling and proud”– Poppy (Lilies on the Land)

On Monday the 11th of July, with the drama studio lights beaming down on us, and the strains of a 1940s tune playing in our ears, we performed our drama pieces to our family and friends.

Each group was given an extract from the play “Lilies on the Land” by The Lions Part. The play details the lives of various women who worked on farms and in the countryside during WW2. It is a piece of verbatim theatre, meaning it is taken directly from the women’s words through interviews and letters they gave.

It was a challenging piece to grasp but we quickly learned to love the play, with its fast paced tone and the wide variety of drama techniques it allowed us to showcase.

Thank you to Mrs Ryan and Mrs Marler for helping us all to create and perform such fantastic pieces, and I am excited to see what our next drama pieces will bring.
