Christmas Concert – Media Team Report

Category: Media Team, Music, News, Students write

It really was beginning to look a lot like Christmas! The main hall was decorated brightly and colourfully (even the Christmas tree was put up), complimenting the festive music of both evenings. Christmas spirit hung in the air, and the cheerful atmosphere was created as the hall was filled with both people and music.

The performances were varied, ranging from classical, jazz, film and Christmas music. So much talent was showcased in both evenings, from those in large orchestras and choirs, to smaller ensembles and individual solos and duets.

The solos and duets were incredible! These were all performed in the Music Festival last month and were winners in their group-really displaying the unbelievable talent in school. Some students also led their own ensembles, and the performances were great to watch and listen to, ranging from ‘Decades of Bollywood’, sung by the Bollywood Singers, to an arrangement of ‘A Wonderful Christmastime’ played by the Guitar Ensemble.

There was beautiful singing by all the choirs, who performed several festive songs, and Chamber Choir even got the audience involved with their lovely rendition of White Christmas, a Christmas classic.

Junior Choir finished our wonderful evenings of concerts with cheerful Christmas songs, including Christmas on the beach at Waikiki (one of which we sang ourselves back in the days of Y7!).

Students all enjoyed performing in the concert and being a part of such a wonderful event. One student said:

It was a great experience to see what everyone had been working towards over the term and hear so many different groups perform!

Without doubt, this would not be possible without Ms Mayall, the Head of Music, who organised the whole concert.

Here is what Ms Mayall had to say:

Congratulations to over 200 students who performed in both Christmas concerts this week. You were all superstars! It was lovely to hear all of our choirs, orchestras, bands and student-led ensembles perform a wide range of music, including some great festive tunes to get us into the Christmas spirit. Congratulations also to the students who have also been performing in the Les Mis production at AGSB during the same week. And also to the AGSB students who joined String Orchestra to perform. Thank you to parents and all staff who have helped in any way.” – Ms Mayall

The evening was very enjoyable, and a well-done must go to all performers for the brilliant performances. Thank you to all the staff for the help, and certainly to the PTA for providing refreshments during the interval. A huge thank you is also in order of course to Ms Mayall for organising the concert and for hosting it!
