National Music for Youth Festival

Category: Music, News

On Sunday 5th March, String Orchestra attended the National Music for Youth Festival in Huddersfield. The festival is a fantastic chance for young musicians to perform and share their music, listen to performances from other groups, meet other musicians and gain advice and feedback from professional musicians and music educators.

We performed two pieces: Vidui by Bloch, with Nam Vo as the soloist, and Spanish Dance from The Stone Host Suite by Myroslav Skoryk, both of which were arranged by former parent Adrienne Spilsbury. These pieces were carefully selected by Mrs Janes and despite being quite challenging, our work has paid off massively. The adjudicators had nothing but praise after we played, complimenting our sound, performance and how we support each other in our playing.

This year has also been special in that we have had 5 students from AGSB playing with us, which has been a new experience for us all (and definitely an interesting one too), and it has been really fun for all of us in String Orchestra to have these opportunities to play together!

We hope that our performance will mean an invitation to the finals in July at Birmingham Conservatoire.
