On Thursday 8 June, six Y9 pupils went to Lancaster University to compete in the Regional Finals of the MFL Translation Bee. It was a very long day with walking, metro, trains and buses all involved! Pupils had one minute to accurate translate as many sentences as possible from French, German or Spanish. It was a fierce and tense competition, with the finalists from schools across the north of England competing. I’m delighted to let you know that five of our Y9 pupils have qualified for the National Finals in Cambridge later this year. Congratulations to Aditi A and Sameeha I (German), Wendy D and Manni G (Spanish) and a special mention to Susanna T who was crowned official Champion of the North for French! Dakshanniya S also competed for French and just narrowly missed out on a spot in the Nationals.
Thanks to Mrs Ryan for doing all the organisation for the competition and helping the pupils to prepare. The students were excellent company, and it was a pleasure to accompany them.
Congratulations (Glückwünsch! / félicitations! / ¡felicitaciones!) to the pupils for these amazing achievements!
